When anime studios create new characters, they’ve got a set number of levers to manipulate in order to create face, hair and personality types that will connect with fans. As we watch more and more anime, we naturally develop a “type” of character we gravitate towards. I asked J-List customers to share their anime girl type, and here’s the list we came up with!

It’s so much fun categorizing all the varieties of cute anime girls we obsess over as fans. Dark hair with a prim and proper personality. Super genki girls with short hair. Characters who have social anxiety that makes it hard to make friends. Characters whose hair color indicates how free they are to break society’s rules. The list goes on and on. So let’s take a look at the anime girl types that J-List customers love the best!
Here’s my type. Black Hair Supremacy 
As for mine, hmm, short-haired blondes like Chisato Nishikigi, Rin Kagamine & Ohana Matsumae seem to be my type? And Chisato from Lycoris Recoil, of course.
My most superficial anime girl type is, well, this. Although, if it wasn’t for my bassist bias for Mio in the first place, I probably wouldn’t go for the other similar-looking goldfish with Rin and Tae either. I could form a mini street band with Mio, Rin, and Tae!
My type? Red-haired teachers.
My anime girl type: long, black or dark brown hair, tall, and (occasionally) shy.
I like the ones that are reserved, kinda tsundere (the good type) with long hair, cold towards the MC at first, but then gradually warming up to him. Examples are Sakaki Yumiko from The Grisaia Series, Sento Isuzu from Amagi Brilliant Park, Julis von Riessfeld from The Asterisk War.
