Why Does Japan Have a Day to Celebrate Flat-Chested Girls?
Why has November 12 been designated as Good Flat Chest Day in Japan? It all comes down to phonetics. The word for “good” in Japanese is ii (pronounced like the letter E), so the number 11 has come to stand for “good” because it looks like ii. It’s virtually impossible for non-Japanese to understand these phonetic pronunciations of numbers, and I’ve pretty much given up on it myself.
It is interesting to reflect on why anime flat chests are so popular with fans.
- Comedic Tension. There are endless opportunities to create humor when a flat-chested girl finds herself in the middle of well-endowed companions.
- Everyone Loves an Underdog. We naturally root for the A-cup girl to defeat her D-cup rivals in love.
- The Moe Factor. Flat-chested characters are more likely to trigger feelings of protectiveness from fans.

When you think of flat-chested anime girls, you might think of Misaka Mikoto from the Toaru Majutsu no Index anime. But her more diminutive clone, Last Order, has even her beat in the DFC department!
Then we have the Suminoe sisters from KissxSis, the most perfect ecchi anime there is. Both girls want to claim their not-related-by-blood younger brother Keita for themselves!
Another legendary smol chest girl is Silica from Sword Art Online, because every side character in that show is doomed to have small boobs. Did you have a crush on her back in 2012?
Koneko from High School DxD is another compact heroine we love. The other girls might have bigger chests than her, but she’s got a bigger heart!
