The Autumn 2023 anime season is upon us, so once again let’s check out all the amazing new anime series that will be vying for our attention. There are a mind-blowing *66* new anime series in the new season, including continuations of existing works. So let’s pick some of the best shows to watch!
What Anime Will J-List Be Following in the Autumn 2023 Anime Season?
SPY x FAMILY Season 2. Naturally everyone will be tuning in to follow the continuing adventures of Loid, Yor and Anya Forger this season. I wouldn’t miss it!
Browse the ranking of SPY x FAMILY figures here!
Goblin Slayer II. I’m a huge fan of the Goblin Slayer universe, with its dark storytelling that triggers casual fans. Let’s hope the move to studio LIDENFILMS doesn’t change the quality of the show for the worse.
The Rising of the Shield Hero season 3. Season 2 unfortunately suffered from the Curse of Anime Second Seasons, with fans disliking the pacing of the story and not supporting the show. Let’s hope studio Kinema Citrus can get things back on track in this new season!
The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You. I love it when upcoming anime get heralded through memes. This anime follows Rentaro, a boy who has confessed to 100 girls, getting his heart broken each time. But due to an error by the God of Love, he ends up winning the love of all 100 girls in the end.
Kanojo mo Kanojo season 2. Although the show wasn’t quite as enjoyable as The Manga Artist and His Assistants, it’s nice to see this series getting a new season. Let’s hope for lots of interesting scenes with the girls!
You Were Experienced, I Was Not: Our Dating Story. An anime based on a light novel series. As punishment for losing a game, gloomy high school boy Ryuto is forced to confess to Runa, the most beautiful girl in the school. Despite them coming from different worlds, Runa (who has lost her virginity already) agrees to date him, and brings him back to her room…
Is “she was my first, I wasn’t hers” a new NTR-esque genre? It seems to be cropping up more and more. This should be an interesting anime to watch otaku react to, if nothing else!
MF Ghost. A new racing anime by the creator of Initial D and set in the same universe? I’m interested! In a future where self-driving electric cars have replaced gasoline vehicles, there’s a racing circuit called MFG that keeps old-school racing alive.
Arknights: Perish in Frost. J-List has been getting some amazing Arknights-related figures and doujinshi in stock. Let’s hope the anime is popular and we get even more!
The iDOLM@STER Million Live! I’ve mentioned before that I’m not the hugest fan of idol anime, but I’ve always loved the Idolmaster universe. So I’ll definitely watch Million Live! to check out the waifus, I mean the story! What I really want to know is, is my beloved Madoka Higuchi going to show up?
Frieren at the Funeral. At first glance, this looks like another generic fantasy anime with a cute elf on the poster. But with animation by Madhouse and an ending song by Yoasobi (Beastars, Oshi no Ko), I know I’ll be paying attention to this series for sure.
Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou. With the popularity of Oshi no Ko, it was a foregone conclusion that we’d get more shows with the word oshi (meaning “the one I love” or “the person I’m rooting for”) in their titles. Time will tell if I’m In Love with the Villainess, yet another reincarnated-in-an-otome-game offering, will stand out with fans.
I’m Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness. Another Autumn 2023 anime with reijo (rich girl) in the title, this show will follow a naughty wizard named Allen and a pure girl named Charlotte. Studio Aoni Production is a new one, but they’re spending the big bucks on Tomokazu Sugita — voice of Jojo, Kyon and narrator Rudy from Mushoku Tensei — so they’ve got my attention.
The Faraway Paladin: The Lord of Rust Mountains. October is spooky season, so why not watch an anime with a horror vibe? This anime is based on a light novel about a human child who is raised by three undead characters. He wants to discover who he is and why he was reborn in a city inhabited by the undead.
Continuing Seasons. We will also get continuing seasons of Dr. Stone: New World, Kage no Jitsuryokusha and Tokyo Revengers. While it’s great for fans following these shows, personally if I wanted stories that continued across years and years, I’d read Batman and Superman comics.
