The Unique Premise Of The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World
Tougo Asagaki is the leader of a sentai fighting team called Kizuna Five, who fight to defend kizuna — the emotional bonds that connect us all to each other. In the final battle, enemies kill Kizuna Red, but instead of dying, he finds himself in an isekai world. Not knowing what to do, he becomes an adventurer in this strange fantasy world, using his unique skills to help the people he meets.

One day, Tougo encounters Yihdra, a mage who wants to restore her dishonored family’s good name and win back the Royal Scepter that her father lost to a competing mage. They quickly form a bond (there’ll be a lot of that in this anime) and end up in a party together. The combination of Red’s sentai fighting skills and over-the-top enthusiasm with Yihdra’s tsukkomi reactions to everything he does make the anime immediately fun.
The show is a smart parody of a sentai fighting show, poking fun at all the classic clichés from the tokusatsu genre. You get over-the-top transformation sequences. Shouting the name of an attack as you make it. Absolute belief in the power of friendship. Striking a ridiculous pose at the end of a battle. Summoning a giant mecha at the end of every episode. You get the idea.

Oh, and explosions. Lots of explosions. Whenever Red does his transformation or strikes a dramatic pose, a giant explosion goes off behind him, which usually causes Yihdra to react in an amusing way.
A Sentai Send-Up…But Still A Proper Sentai Adventure
Personally, I found the show to be hilarious, as in laughing-so-much-I-woke-up-Mrs.-J-List-on-the-sofa hilarious. I binged the first six episodes all at once, which isn’t something I can say about too many other shows in recent memory.
After I started watching The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World, I immediately smiled at the unique premise. But I was worried, too, wondering if the story could retain its appeal across a whole season. Wouldn’t the novelty wear off quickly?
I didn’t need to worry because it has an incredibly well-developed story for an anime filled with sentai gags. For example, the TV series Kizuna Red came from is very well-developed, and we occasionally get flashbacks to his previous life, complete with episode numbers and titles from the original series. Red’s powers closely match the established lore of what sentai fans expect, and it’s clear that the creators have taken a lot of care to make the show special for serious fans of the tokusatsu genre.

I found the production quality extremely high and without the usual drop-off in quality after episode 2. Great care has been taken to play up the ridiculous sentai battle scenes, especially the Maximum Kizuna Kaizer giant robot summoning sequence, which is a huge shout-out to Voltron.
Another Reason to Watch Sentai Red Isekai: Yihdra
Every hero needs a busty mage for a sidekick. But Yihdra’s sharp wit and reactions to Tougo’s crazy antics make her the perfect comedic counterbalance. I love every scene with her!
