I’m a fan of the Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime genre, as it’s a relaxing way to turn off my brain and chill after a hard day. The newest entry in the CGDCT genre this season is RPG Fudousan, or RPG Real Estate, the story of four cute girls working at a real estate office in a fantasy world. It’s a cute way to blend anime tropes about cute girls and make jokes that anyone who’s spent time combing through the listings on a real estate website will appreciate.
What Can You Expect From RPG Real Estate?
The RPG Real Estate office — the letters mean “Rent, Plan and Guide for You” — is a company that helps find places for people to live… but in a magical world where humans and monsters live side-by-side. Newly graduated mage Kotone has come to work at the company, alongside monk Rufuria, warrior Rakira and a wild demi-human monster girl named Fa. Together they solve the various house-hunting problems their customers have, bringing humans and magical monsters together along the way. We also get…

Yes, the show has a sexy fanservice element, allowing us to get jokes about Kotone’s voluptuous body, Fa’s lack of physical development, and the lesbian relationship between Rufuria and Rakira. So if you liked Is The Order a Rabbit? but didn’t find enough sexual jokes, then perhaps this is the show for you.
RPG Fudousan is based on a 4-koma manga by Mochiyo Kaku which ran in Manga Time Kirara. The anime is by Doga Kobo, which brought us such beloved hits as Himoto! Umaru-chan and Gabriel Dropout.

Tapping Into the Fascination for Real Estate Stories
I’m fascinated at the way TV shows from one corner of the world can become popular almost anywhere, finding a market in unlikely places thanks to the modern streaming era we live in. From her home in central Japan, Mrs. J-List watches food shows from all over the world, following Rachel Khoo and Giada De Laurentiis as they make delicious dishes, with Japanese voices dubbed over while they cook. (“Cooking shows are always dubbed rather than subtitled because you can’t cook and read subtitles at the same time,” she logically explained to me.)
She also loves to watch real estate shows like Flip or Flop, following Christina and Tarek as they acquire trashy homes and fix them up for resale, and records every episode, despite the fact that we live 5500 miles / 8800 km from California and aren’t in the business of flipping houses. I think the RPG Real Estate anime taps into this fascination with following the minute details of people living in places far away from where we are, allowing us to enjoy the unfolding story without any involvement ourselves.
