Why is the UK Banning Porn Involving Step-Relative Characters?
According to LBC, the British House of Lords voted to ban pornography involving step-relatives. Specifically, they voted 142-140 to amend a piece of existing legislation to add a ban on depictions between step-relatives in fictional porn.
While the term “step-relatives” would also involve step-sister/step-brother relationships, the main concern for lawmakers seems to be media that normalizes the idea of sex between step-parents and their not-related-by-blood children, because a lot of abuse happens in these situations. The amendment also tries to add a “barely legal porn ban” against adult acting young while performing. So does that mean no more twintail hair in porn?
A reminder that the UK’s Parliament — the first body of its kind in the world — works a bit differently than in most countries. There are two parts: the House of Commons, elected by voters normally, and the House of Lords, which would operate the Senate in American terms. The House of Lords consists of three groups, the first two being members given lifetime appointments by the Crown, and the Hereditary Peers whose positions are passed down through their families. The third group is made up of up to 26 bishops of the Church of England, who are actual sitting lawmakers. This is going to break the American brain!
Would a Stepmother Porn Ban Affect Anime?
Likely not. Aside from the impossibility of checking every pornographic video to verify compliance, how do you control what people are watching through the streaming services of Pornhub? It’s just another silly thing for lawmakers to waste everyone’s time with.
The UK Has Bigger Fish to Fry, Like Productivity
I’m a fan of YouTuber Patrick Boyle, who makes videos explaining complex economic topics to his viewers. Recently, he did an excellent breakdown on the various problems currently plaguing Great Britain. The source of the “productivity puzzle” at the heart of the country, Boyle argues, is a series of “compounding errors” by policymakers that have kept productivity from rising at a rate matching other nations. One example he gave is a surgeon who earns £100,000 ($134,000), who wanted to work some extra shifts to help clear his hospital’s backlog. But if he earns any additional money, he’ll lose some important subsidies for his childcare, and will have to work another 60 hours to get back to zero. So he avoids the extra work, the hospital’s backlog doesn’t get solved, and no one wins.
Productivity is the measure of the value of one hour of our labor, spread across the entire population. As a business owner, it’s something I think about a lot. Although I don’t support using AI to try to replace proper anime, I am a fan of it in general as a tool for streamlining my personal workflows. I think everyone should be studying AI tools like Claude using the paid plans.
And I also think the UK should focus on how to raise the productivity of its citizens rather than passing silly laws about porn that aren’t enforceable anyway.

I agree with this. It’s only good when they’re blood-related. Yuki’s wisdom is truly far-reaching.
Incest in hentai is ok because it’s supposed to allow things that would be unthinkable IRL. It’s the same with fantastical genres like tentacle porn. They’re a guilty pleasure that’s permitted to all of us. Nobody should be bringing actual fantasies into the real world.
