Naturally, a new anime season brings lots of new isekai anime options. One show I’m enjoying a lot is Lv2 kara Cheat data Motoyuusha Kouho no Mattari Isekai Life, or Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers. The show is unique because it reunites the voice cast from Zero no Tsukaima. Let’s see if Lv2 Cheat Skill is for you!

Which Isekai Anime Will You Watch This Season?
The current anime season is a massive one, chock full of great anime for fans to watch. There are plenty of isekai offerings to choose from, too. In addition to new seasons of fan favorites like Konosuba, Mushoku Tensei and That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime, we’ve got several new series. These include
- I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability (aka “Isekai Shotacon: The Anime”)
- As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I’ll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World (a salaryman gets reincarnated with appraisal as his only skill)
- Henjin no Salad Bowl (a private detective meets a princess from another world, and comedy ensues)
- Re:Monster (reincarnated as an ugly-ass goblin).
Then there’s Lv2 Cheat Skill, or Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers. It’s part of a growing genre of “slow life in another world” series. These are perfect for anime fans who wish they could be whisked away to a fantasy world where they could live a stress-free life at a slower pace.
The Story of Lv2 Cheat Skill
Lv2 Cheat is the story of Banaza, a merchant in a fantasy world who is such a good person, he refuses to mistreat the demi-humans the others in his country use as slaves. The next thing Banaza knows, he’s been isekai’ed, summoned to another world. He’s asked to become their hero and defeat a Dark Lord and his demons. But he has no skills to speak of, so the king banishes him to a forest overrun by demons. When he kills some slimes, he elevates himself to level 2. This unlocks “cheat skills” that allow him to achieve any goal.
Banaza meets a cute girl who reveals herself as a terrible wolf demon, but he easily defeats her demon form with his handy cheat-level magic skills. The defeated girl becomes his sidekick, posing as his wife as they go on various adventures together. This includes teaming up with sexy female warriors to defeat the Dark Lord.
The show is fun. It’s the usual “comfortable” isekai fare about a powerful hero with OP skills who isn’t challenged in any way. As long as you know what you’re getting into, it’s a relaxing way to spend some time. As a card-carrying Rie Kugimiya fanboy, I’m happy to have her back in a new role. And this time, she’s a deredere (lovey-dovey) girl instead of her usual tsundere character type.
If you don’t like Rie Kugimiya as a wolf-girl, there are lots of other cute side-waifus to choose from!
There’s Zero Chance That Lv2 Cheat Won’t Seem Familiar
If you’re a fan of the tsundere isekai anime Zero no Tsukaima (The Familiar of Zero), then you might do a double take watching Lv2 Cheat Skill. This is because it brings voice acting legends Rie Kugimiya and Satoshi Hino together again in the lead roles. Other Zero no Tsukaima voice cast members also show up, including Yui Horie.
Is bringing famous voice actor teams together to try to re-create the magic of older series a good idea? It honestly felt a little contrived when Aria the Scarlet Ammo reunited Rie Kugimiya and Junji Mamiya, to see if Toradora fans would become fans of the new series. If fans think they’re being manipulated by anime studios, they can react negatively. For example, when they shove some region of Japan into the story and assume fans will start making pilgrimages there as the latest “anime holy land,” sometimes they can get the opposite reaction. This happened with Rinne no Lagrange, which got quite heavy-handed in promoting the city of Kamogawa, to the detriment of the show’s popularity.
I consider the inclusion of the two Zero no Tsukaima voice actors a good thing. If it creates a little buzz online and gets more fans to tune in, that’s great. Also, the studio will presumably take the production extra seriously because of the famous voice cast, which will hopefully lead to a better anime for us all.
