Happy Birthday to Saori Hayami!
Saori Hayami was born on May 29, 1991 in Tokyo. As a child, she was watching an Audrey Hepburn film dubbed in Japanese with her mother, and wondered who the people providing the Japanese voices were. “I thought they must be foreigners who were really good at Japanese,” she said in an interview. Eventually she imagined herself providing the voices for films and movies, and in junior high she entered the Japan Narration Acting Institute and began training for voice work.
Although Saori Hayami exploded onto the voice acting scene with her role as yandere Ayase in 2013’s I Can’t Believe My Sister Is This Cute, her career started in 2007 when she won the role of Momoka Kawakabe for the anime version of Toka Gettan and Ikaros from 2009’s Heaven’s Lost Property.
Although she was working professionally in the industry from the age of 16, she didn’t neglect her education. She studied hard and won entry to Waseda University, graduating in 2014. It’s great that she was able to follow her dream and achieve so much success!
What Are Her Most Important Roles?
Ayase Aragaki from Oreimo. Her breakout as a voice actress came voicing Ayase, a character who became so popular, she gave Kuroneko competition for Best Girl of that show. Suddenly, everyone knew Saori’s name.
Yotsugi Ononoki from Owarimonogatari. Another amazing character that highlights Saori-chan’s voice acting skills perfectly.
Shinobu Kochou from Demon Slayer. Another amazing role she’s won praise for is Shinobu from Demon Slayer. I love her eerie voice when she’s taking down an enemy.
J-List did a Happy Birthday post for Rie Takahashi, exploring her amazing voice roles, too. Read it here!
Touko Sakurai from Senpai ga Uzai. A fun show about office love, Senpai ga Uzai was a little boring because it was clear the two main characters weren’t going to date. But OL Touko and salaryman Sota’s relationship actually went somewhere, which was great to watch unfold.
Miyuki Shiba from The Irregular at Magic High School. One of the best brother-obsessed imouto characters in years was also voiced by Saori-chan.

Ryu Lion from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? The most recent season of Danmachi really had fans loving the elf girl Ryu. It was easy to see why.

Jabami Yumeko from Kakegurui. Another fun show with a character that couldn’t have been played by anyone besides Saori Hayami.
Kokoro from Darling in the Franxx. Another popular role was Kokoro from Darling in the Franxx, who re-discovers sex as a way to further the human race.
Tsuki Uzaki from Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out. One trend I’ve been noticing is that Saori-chan has been getting more MILF-tastic roles, which is something I’m totally in favor of.
We have figures, doujinshi and more of Tsuki Uzaki on the J-List site. Find them here!
Yor Forger from Spy x Family. See? Doesn’t her voice go great with older, mature women who are gorgeous and able to handle any task?
Yukino Yukinoshita from Oregairu. Finally, a role that also could only have been performed by Saori Hayami is Yukino from Oregairu.
Bonus: her role as Miho Azuki in Bakuman was just amazing. Watching her voice-acting a character that’s voice acting is beyond awesome!
