Happy 37th birthday to Kanae Ito, the talented voice actor and singer who never fails to bring a smile to the faces of fans when she voices a character. Let’s explore some of her best roles in this post!
Kanae Ito was born November 26, 1986, in Nagano Prefecture in central Japan. As a young anime fan, she fell in love with the voice work by legendary seiyu Junko Takeuchi, who voices Gon in HUNTER x HUNTER (as well as Naruto). This made her decide early on that she wanted to become a voice actor one day.
After high school, she attended Amusement Media Sogo Gakuen, a training school for the talent industry, and won her first lead role voicing Amu in Shugo Chara! This was the first of many popular roles which would make her a standout in the industry.
Kanae Ito’s hobbies include photography (especially of the sky) and making pottery, and she’s said that if she hadn’t been successful as a voice actor, she would have been happy being a potter. She hates insects, ghost stories, and thunderstorms.

Airi the Maid from Queen’s Blade. One of my favorite Kanae Ito roles has to be the super sexy maid Airi from Queen’s Blade, from way back in the day. Kanae’s voice always drips with sexual attraction and helped make Airi my favorite character from that anime.
Eris the Catgirl from Asobi ni Iku Yo! Another sexy role was Eris from Cat Planet Cuties.
Elucia from The World God Only Knows. The super-cute Ellie is another popular role a lot of fans will know her from.
Nana Deviluke from To Love-ru. Another super voice role was Nana from To Love-ru, always so haughty as she plays straight man to her younger sister Momo.
Ohana from Hanasaku Iroha. The mark of a great seiyu is when you can watch a whole show starring one of your favorite voice actresses but not notice it’s her because of the fresh vibe she brought to the character. I just learned Kanae voiced this character today!
Yui from Sword Art Online. Another popular role is Yui, the adopted daughter of Kirito and Asuna.
Ruiko Saten from Index/Railgun. Kanae Ito also voiced Saten-san from A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun. She sure likes checking out Uiharu-san’s underwear!
Sena Kashiwazaki from Haganai. My personal favorite anime voice role by Kanae Ito is Sena from Haganai, the rich girl with just a few uncomfortable sexual proclivities. What a great performance by Kanae Ito!
The best thing about having a character you love is discovering the official character songs they sing. This is Sena’s song about her feelings for Kodaka. Enjoy the song!
Boa Hancock from One Piece*. Finally, the role a lot of fans will know Kanae from (if they watch with subtitles) is the sultry Boa Hancock from One Piece. A perfect role for her! (She only voices Boa in the One Piece Film: Strong World Episode 0.)
