The new issue of Newtype is in stock on the J-List site, so let’s take a look at what’s inside! This is the first issue of Kadokawa’s legendary ‘Moving Pictures Magazine’ of 2023, so let’s start the year off right!
The cover is great, with a lovely illustration of the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch of Mercury on the cover, wishing everyone a happy 2023.
I sometimes hear from (presumably more casual fans) on social media, “Oh, Newtype still exists?” Yes, it’s still going strong, ever since it was founded in 1985 by former film distributor Kadokawa to steal the thunder away from Animage, the reigning king when it came to anime magazines in the 80s. It won by having much brighter pages filled with colorful art, plus posters and other goodies that fans couldn’t resist buying.
As usual, the new issue is beautiful to look through, and can follow all the popular new anime series with this one magazine. Inside are articles and gorgeous visuals about the newest Gundam series, info on Tensei Oujo to Tensei Reijo, an update on the new season of Bofuri: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt So I’ll Max Out My Defense, plus articles about Lupin Zero, Jujitsu Kaiden, Kage no Jitsuryokusha, Yama no Susume, Danmachi and…well, you get the idea.
There are a total of six posters, a pin-up with Bofuri and Nier:Automata on either side, plus two larger fold-out posters with Witch of Mercury, Fate/Strange Fake, Bungou Dogs season 4 and the cover picture of the Witch of Mercury characters wearing kimonos.
Thanks for reading this blog post showing the visuals and posters in the new February 2023 Newtype. Grab it from the website before we sell out!
