I love the huge variety that Japan offers in the How to Draw books we stock, with everything from cute gestures and body language to How to Draw oppai and even panties. Today we’ll look at How to Draw Kemonomimi, a fun way to learn how to create furry art!
The book features art by three artists — Yanami, Hisona and Saya — and is focus on giving you a solid approach at understanding and creating art of kemonomimi characters, that is, humans with animal features such as cute ears or tails. Furry style art is quite popular in Japan, and there are many artists making many different kinds of cute characters for fans to enjoy.
There are four sections: a main “core principles of creating furry character art” segment that covers the basic, followed by a section in which each artist gives their approach to designing kemonomimi characters. Great care is given to understanding how various animal ears — cat, raccoon, bunny, fox — compare to each other, and how they move during different situations or emotional states the characters are experiencing. Each topic, such as comparing how dog ears differ from fox ears, has lots of line art you can imitate if you want to get those topics down in your own art. It will certainly help you on your journey to becoming a better artist!
