New Book Teaches you to Draw Japanese School Uniforms!

One thing we love stocking on the J-List site are How to Draw books, which help you become a better artist by focusing on one aspect of character design, specific kinds of poses, or different kinds of character features. This is the Junior High and High School Illustration Book, which is filled with great illustrations of school uniforms worn by junior high and high school girls. The book teaches you to draw Japanese school uniforms!

The book gives you 144 pages of super cute girls wearing all manner of school uniforms, with lots of variation presented to show you the many different kinds of school uniforms that exist. Summer uniforms with very light fabrics. Winter uniforms with extra layers to provide warmth during the colder months. Both “sailor suit” and “blazer” type uniforms. Formal uniforms which are made extra cute to attract more students to that school, or more relaxed uniforms for schools with a more casual culture. There are 200 illustrations in the ebook

The book has a lot of extra material, including a focus on the accessories worn by students, from their loafer shoes to the ribbons they clip to the front of the uniforms, to the schoolbags they carry. How do a girl’s shoes look as she’s trying to decide which ones to wear? A lot of detail is given to the uniforms themselves, informing us of the various parts of a school uniform and what they’re called in kanji.

In addition to this illustration book, there’s a similar Junior High & High School Girl’s Uniform Guide Book you might want to pick up. It takes a similar approach, teaching you about the features of school uniforms so you understand how to place them in your art.

As with the other How to Draw books we stock, they’re in Japanese, but with a very small amount of Japanese text on the edges of the page, it’s the perfect application for translation apps like Google Translate. Just point the app at the page and the Japanese comments on each section of the book will be transformed into English for you. It works really well!

Find the Junior High and High School Illustration Book on the site now and let it teach you to draw Japanese school uniforms, and be sure to check out the guide book version too.
