Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (Zon 100: Zonbi ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto / Zom 100: 100 Things I Want to do Before I Become a Zombie) is a different twist on the zombie apocalypse survival genre. The main character is happy about it. He was overworked and abused at his job for years, and now he doesn’t have to go back. Who wouldn’t be pleased? Studio Bug Films released a trailer before the scheduled July 2023 release date. Let’s watch Akira enjoy his work-free life.

Taking a Day off for the Zombie Apocalypse
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead takes the unique approach of presenting a protagonist that is happy about the zombie apocalypse. Akira Tendo (voiced by Shuichiro Umeda) was excited to work at a company he admired. It quickly became apparent it was an abusive black company that overworked and underpaid its employees. Akira lost his zest for life, and even his apartment became a landfill. The one thing that kept his spirits going, a crush on the accountant Saori Otori, soured when he discovered she was seeing his abusive chairman.
Three years later, when Akira looked no better than a zombie, he discovered that the world had ended the night before. He went to go pay off his landlord and found him eating someone. Akira quickly fled several zombies with a noticeable spring in his step. Work was canceled because everyone had turned into a zombie. He couldn’t be happier.
Akira made a heroic attempt to ensure Saori’s safety by going to her home. He briefly passed some neighbors and happily offered to find some supplies for them on his way back home. He found the chairman as a zombie and performed a wrestling move as he resigned from his position at the company. Saori was also a zombie, to his dismay. He confessed his feelings to her as he ran for his life.
Once Akira returned home, he listed things he had always wanted to do. A bucket list to cross off during a zombie apocalypse. He’ll run into fun characters on the way, such as the foreign samurai girl Beatrix Amerhauser (voiced by Minami Takahashi), who will obviously be Best Girl.
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Origins
This zombie series is written by Haro Aso and illustrated by Kotaro Takata. Shogakukan began publishing Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead in its Sunday GX Comics imprint and its Monthly Sunday Gene-X magazine on October 19th, 2018. Thirteen volumes have been released so far.
A live-action series has also been announced, where Eiji Akaso will portray Akira Tendo. It will premiere sometime in 2023. Fans in the West should know that Netflix has licensed the series.
