2022 has been a pretty stellar year for anime so far. Maybe not the best ever, but between the winter and spring seasons alone, it’s made a convincing argument. Don’t rest on your laurels just yet though, because the summer season is going to be just as hot with the news that one of my hotly anticipated titles, The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting, will premiere on July 7th!
As seen in the promotional video, along with the premiere date, we also got a couple of new cast members and a preview of the opening theme song “Mirai no Hero Tachi e” (To Tomorrow’s Heroes) by Shō Takeyaki. The new cast members announced within the video are as follows (character names first):
Rei Hojo: Wataru Hatano
Masaya Hayami: Jun Fukuyama
Yuri Mashiro: Hiroshi Kamiya
Recapping what we already knew about this anime adaptation from a previous report, studios feel. and GAINA will jointly produce the animation with Itsuro Kawasaki serving as the director working off of series composition written by Keiichiro Ochi, character designs by Hiromi Ogata, and background music composed by Takuro Iga.
In this story, the focus is… yakuza! The main character is a high-ranking yakuza member named Kirishima Tooru (played by Yoshimasa Hosoya) who has earned the nickname “the Demon of Sakuragi.” One day, though, the boss of the family he belongs to gives him a very special mission that only Tooru can handle: become the regular babysitter for the boss’s young daughter Yaeka (played by Misaki Watada).
Everything that I’ve seen about the anime adaptation of The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting so far has only made me more and more excited to finally watch it in July. Having already read the first three volumes on the manga subscription service Azuki, I can firmly say that the story will be more than worth the price of admission, and the promotional videos that have been released so far fill me with confidence that the crew is going to do right by this series. Do yourself a favor and add this title to your “Plan to Watch”.
