It’s not often we see a reverse isekai situation. Otaku Elf is a fine example of a cute elf girl coming to Japan. Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! (Nihon e Yokoso Elf-san.) is our most recent example, and it looks pretty fun. A regular guy dreams of a fantastical world and gets a not-quite-rude awakening when his dreams come to life. While we don’t yet have a premiere date, we have a trailer to enjoy.
Makishima Suzuki posted the original Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! novel on the user-generated website Shosetsuka ni Naro on February 22nd, 2017. Hobby Japan obtained the publishing rights and hired the artist Yappen to adapt the series to a light novel format. This new run began on August 25th, 2018, with nine volumes currently published in the HJ Novels imprint.
Our dreaming salaryman and his dream elf girl are as follows:
- Kazuhiro Kitase — Yusuke Kobayashi (Dino from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime). A regular guy who has dreamed of a fantasy world since he was a young boy. He discovered just how genuine his dreams were as an adult.
- Marie — Kaede Hondo (Shigeru Kamado from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). A cute elf girl who has already lived for a century. She accompanies Kazuhiro on his adventures.
Zero-G has maintained a home page and a Twitter (X) page to promote Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf!. You can find additional series information and the Key Visuals there.
Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! Brings a Cute Elf Girl to Earth
Kazuhiro has dreamed of a magnificent and magical place since he was a little kid. He went on grand adventures and even met a cute elf girl named Marie along the way. Kazuhiro always treated these as just fun, albeit realistic, dreams. They were so much fun that he left work right on time to get home to dream again, which prevented any upward career momentum. His latest adventure takes the two into a lost civilization’s ruins. Their attempt to see a dragon lay eggs ends with dragon fire. As with any other “death” in his dreams, Kazuhiro awoke in bed as though nothing happened. This time was different. Marie woke up with him, and she didn’t have her armor. Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf!
