VTuber fans rejoice! Because another VTuber anime series is on the way! VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream, which we will call VTuber Legend for brevity, will be adapted to anime form. The announcement trailer consists of what seems to be just a regular VTuber stream. But as this is an anime adaptation, this is likely nothing more than a teaser before they show off the series itself. In fact, all we know are that Kadokawa uploaded the two teaser trailers and that Awayuki Kokorone, the main character, is voiced by Ayane Sakura.
The previous teaser trailer from a year ago played out in much the same manner.
VTuber Legend follows a new VTuber named Awayuki Kokorone. Yuki Tanaka quit her job as a regular worker and joined Live-On, a prestigious VTuber company. She began to work alongside her idols and put on the pure ladylike appearance of Awayuki Kokorone. At the start of the series, she gains some attention as a beautiful and polite woman. But her subscriber count and her income are terrible.
Things change at the end of her latest stream, where she assumes she closed out her stream to call it a night. Unfortunately, she had not, and though her VTuber avatar stopped moving, Kokorone’s few viewers heard her loud and clear. Kokorone grabbed a cold drink and pulled up Live-On’s archive to enjoy some streams. Here, her true persona revealed itself: a hard-drinking and wise-cracking woman.
Yuki Tanaka thought she was finished as a VTuber, but her manager at Live-On told her they loved her new and real persona, and she was given free rein to be herself. Her fellow VTubers also approved since they might be just as crass as she is.

VTuber Legend began as a light novel series written by Nana Nanato and illustrated by Siokazunoko. The novel was posted originally online to Light Novel websites Hameln and Kakuyomu in 2020 until publishing rights were picked up by Fujimi Fantasia Bunko. They began printing in May 2021. Six volumes have been published as of January 2023.
Besides this anime adaptation, a manga version of VTuber Legend has also been announced by Kadokawa Shoten, but no further details are currently available.
VTuber Legend is the new VTuber anime series to be announced, following Kizuna AI’s own series Kizuna no Allele. Kizuna AI is also getting a video game, Kizuna AI Touch the Beat!. We may see a concerted effort to bring VTubers into anime, manga, and video games. This makes complete sense since a 2021 tally counted about 16,000 active VTubers, and that number is likely to have only grown, and the top earners take in a lot of money.
