Virgin Punk, the upcoming Yasuomi Umetsu x Studio Shaft original theatrical anime, has announced its air date and premiere theaters. The sci-fi action thriller’s first part, Clockwork Girl, will debut on June 27, 2025, at the Cine Libre Ikebukuro Theater (Tokyo) and Umeda Theater (Osaka).
Virgin Punk — What We Know
The announcement about the upcoming theatrical anime came at the end of 2024’s Aniplex Online Fest. However, the movie’s voice cast remained a mystery. The producers have not announced the cast yet, though.

Virgin Punk follows Ubu, a female bounty hunter from the year 2099. Filled with inner turmoil, she finds herself in a world chock-full of chaos and violence as the wants of those around her bleed into her life. Yasuomi Umetsu (Akira, Fireworks, Kite, Mezzo Forte) provided the character design for the upcoming film and served as its director. Studio Shaft (Monogatari, Nisekoi, Fate/Extra) and Mr. Umetsu worked on the show’s story. Virgin Punk serves as Mr. Umetsu’s first directorial role from ten years ago. Yuya Takahashi (Kamen Rider) crafted the show’s script.
The production team launched a website and an X account for the project after its announcement at the Aniplex Online Fest. But currently, they contain scant information on the film. A previously released trailer featured Ubu running out of a hospital ward and into a futuristic world. It teased a sci-fi-oriented, fast-paced, violent, and cyborg-esque kawaii waifu-packed production along with a visual of the film’s lead heroine in a pensive pose with blood splatter and a gun.
Previously announced production staff of the upcoming film include:
- Yasuomi Umetsu — character designer and director
- Studio Shaft — Animation production
- Shinichi Yokata — Art Designs
- Yuji Honji & Yuki Funagakure — Art Directors
- Yasuko Watanabe — Color Design
- Yoshiaki Dewa — Music
- Rie Matsubara — Production Editor
- Rei Egami & Takayuki — Photography Directors
- Shoji Hata — Sound Director
