Fans of the bizarrely charming racing horse girls series, Uma Musume, are about to have their day made!
In an announcement that hit the internet on Tuesday, September 22nd, it was revealed that Uma Musume will be getting a full second season in 2021! No further details were revealed regarding the new season, but they released a promotional video and key visual to whet your appetites!
Uma Musume was scheduled to be a mixed media project that would start with a mobile game and include manga and anime. The game was originally announced in 2016 but soon afterward was delayed until an unknown future date. A manga series was launched on the Cygames website in March 2017 and has since been compiled into four volumes as of early 2019. A thirteen-episode anime series with animation from P.A. Works aired from April to June 2018 and was simulcast by Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll describes the story of Uma Musume as:
This is a tale of a world where “horse girls” with glorious names and incredible running abilities live alongside humanity. Horse girl Special Week has moved from the country to the city to attend Tracen Academy. There, she and her classmates compete to win the Twinkle Series and earn the title of “The County’s #1 Horse Girl.”
In summer 2020, the series received a spinoff comedy series of shorts titled Umayon which, much like another series of shorts, only served to get the fans excited for more racing horse girls. So this second season announcement is coming at a perfect time! If you’re interested in horse racing but always felt that it needed some extra pizazz in the form of moe girls who are also idols (yes, seriously), this is the perfect series for you to check out!
