Welp, I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that we can sound the alarms because it’s a new anime announcement day! The bad news is that it’s another isekai. Please don’t hit me.
Originally a light novel written by Yomu Mishima and illustrated by Monda, the title for this isekai comedy is Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs. While it starts as a typical “salaryman gets killed and sent to another world” story, the twist this time is that the man in question is sent into the world of an otome dating simulator where only the most gorgeous characters come out on top. Luckily for our hero, he remembers how to get the best routes in the game and uses that information to upset the social system in this new world. The series is currently set to premiere in April 2022.
Now we get to the fun part where we reveal everyone who will bring this anime adaptation to life!
Studio ENGI will produce the animation with Kazuya Miura and Shinichi Fukumoto (who is making his full directorial debut) sharing the director duties. They will work off series composition created by Kenta Ihara and character designs adapted for animation by Masahiko Suzuki.
As for the primary cast, we can also confirm the following three roles (character name first):
Leon Fou Bartfort: Takeo Otsuka
Olivia: Kana Ichinose
Angelica Rapha Redgrave: Fairouz Ai
Now I need to admit something to you all and I feel like I can do this because of how close we’ve all become; I initially scoffed at this title the first time I learned about this news. To me, it sounded like a series that was just trying to cash in on the buzz left by My Next Life As A Villainess. Then I watched the promotional video and found myself quite intrigued by the last few seconds.
While it’s easy to dismiss Trapped in a Dating Sim as just another isekai, that video captured my interest for a solid few seconds as the lead character defends the honor of a woman. Without proper context, it’s difficult to say what about this moment struck me as so memorable, but it makes it feel like there’s a dark underbelly to this story that I’m not aware of yet and that, as I said, has me intrigued.
