A few months ago, visual novel publisher AQUAPLUS released a trailer hinting at a project in their long-running To Heart franchise. Its trailer paid off a week ago because it announced a remake of the original To Heart. It was previously hard to obtain because the publishers released the hard copy long before the internet was as ubiquitous as it is today. The visual novel To Heart will now be available for all—well, anyone who can understand Japanese—to enjoy.
What Your Heart Should Expect
Details remain sparse. There are plans for a 2025 release and a new voice cast. However, other information will come after AQUAPLUS’s 30th-anniversary celebration event in November. Coming less than three years after the company’s October 1994 founding, To Heart is one of AQUAPLUS’s oldest visual novels, and it will be exciting to see what its decades of experience since will bring to the project. Because the remaster will include the old voice acting, with the new voice work as an option, I suspect that the plot and events will be untouched, meaning we’ll hopefully be able to enjoy the plot as first intended.
To Heart stars one Hiroyuki Fujita, an ordinary Japanese high school student. He encounters several quirky young women (and a robot maid)! Hiroyuki must choose who he will spend his time in pursuit of…their hearts. I kid, but as is usual for a visual novel, your goal is to get to know and get to know a set of heroines, winning them over across ten heroine routes. Whether it’s their hearts you win over is a matter of interpretation. For the ever-curious among you, Wikipedia has one of those surprisingly detailed niche subject matter pages for the To Heart series’ characters that you can find here to learn more.
