Love is in the air at Sentai Filmworks, as the English anime localization company has announced the English dub cast for their upcoming release of time-stopping yuri anime Fragtime. Set to release on Blu-ray on August 18th, the company accompanied the announcement with a trailer previewing the brand new English dub in action.
If you’ve ever seen the Mamoru Hosoda anime film The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, you’re in for a similar story with Fragtime. High schooler girl Misuzu Moritani has the ability to stop time for three minutes each day, but when she uses it one day to try and snag a peek at her classmate Haruka Murakami’s underwear, she’s shocked to find out that Haruka isn’t affected by the time freeze at all. From there, the two begin to bond in and out of the frozen time.
The main English cast for Fragtime is as follows:
- Caitlynn French as Moritani
- Genevieve Simmons as Murakami
- Natalie Rial as Kobayashi
- Christina Kelly as Aikawa
- Blake Jackson as Tamaki
Other voice talents featured in the English dub for Fragtime are Luci Christian, Allison Sumrall, Natalie Jones, Shannon Emerick, Shelley Black, Hilary Haag, Natalie Jones, Monica Rial, Shanae’a Moore, Christina Kelly, Kyle Colby Jones, and Ryan Anthony. The dub is being directed by Blake Jackson and Kyle Colby Jones alongside ADR scriptwriter Holly Segarra and translator Deven Neel. They’re joined by audio engineers Ricardo Contreras, Brent Marshall, and Jonathan Rodriguez. Contreras is also handling English mixing duties.
Fragtime was produced at animation company Tear Studio, previously responsible for anime like Lord of Vermilion: The Crimson King and Why the Hell are You Here, Teacher!?. It was directed by Kase-san and Morning Glories director Takuya Sato, with the Kase-san and Morning Glories animation director Tomoko Sudo also serving as character designer. Music was composed by musician rionos, another returning staff member from Kase-san and Morning Glories. The theme song of the film is actually a cover of the 2001 pop song “fragile” by Every Little Thing, with the cover version being performed by the lead Japanese voice actresses Miku Ito and Yume Miyamoto as their respective characters. The film was distributed by Pony Canyon.
If you happened to be in attendance at Anime NYC last November, you might have already gotten to see Fragtime. The film had its US premiere at the New York City anime convention just before Sentai Filmworks’ official panel, although this screening was of the Japanese audio version. Japanese voice actress Miku Ito even attended the screening alongside Yusuke Terada.
The film is based on an original manga by Akita Shoten, which was launched on the “Champion Tap!” manga website (now named Manga Cross) in 2013 and ran until 2014. Shoten later published two compiled book volumes for the manga series, and Seven Seas Entertainment released the entire manga in a single omnibus volume on April 14th.
