Lupin III and his band of thieves are back! Lupin the IIIrd the Movie (tentative title) will mark the series’ first 2D animated film in nearly 30 years. The prior entry was 1996’s Lupin III: Dead or Alive. We’ll see what adventure Arsène Lupin’s descendant and his friends find when this movie premieres sometime in 2025.
Monkey Punch (Kazuhiko Kato) released the original Lupin III manga series from August 10th, 1967 to May 22nd, 1969. Futabasha and Chuokoron-Shinsha published all fourteen volumes in Weekly Manga Action. Tokyo Movie’s anime adaptation premiered on October 24th, 1971.
Lupin and two of his cohorts are as follows:
- Lupin III — Kanichi Kurita. A suave gentleman thief whose reputation spans the entire globe.
- Daisuke Jigen — Akio Otsuka (WISE Director from SPY x FAMILY). An ace gunman and Lupin’s right-hand man.
- Fujiko Mine — Miyuki Sawashiro (Raiden Shogun/Raiden Ei from Genshin Impact). A femme fatale who changes to loyalties whenever it suits her.

Lupin the IIIrd the Movie Starts With a Bang
Details about the move are scarce at the moment. Lupin is a world-famous gentleman thief and mercenary. He is a man of pride and ego who warns his targets before he takes what he wants despite their efforts to stop him. Lupin is a master of disguise and combat with a penchant for chasing cute girls like the femme fatale Fujiko Mine. She’ll either help him or take what he’s trying to steal just on her own whims.
The expert marksman Daisuke Jigen and the modern-day samurai Goemon Ishikawa XIII assist Lupin in his endeavors. They have little patience for his womanizing or whacky antics, but they’re tried and true friends. These two come in handy whenever Interpol Inspector Koichi Zenigata chases Lupin across the world.
