Reincarnation isn’t always a rewarding experience. Sometimes you’re born under a pall. What are you to do in that situation? Well, you emulate Mercedes Grünewald from Mercedes and the Waning Moon (Kaketa Tsuki no Mercedes). Luckily, emulating her will get a lot easier. You don’t have to read the light novel — you can tune into the premiere of the anime! Almost a year after the anime’s announcement, the production team has revealed a January 2027 premiere date. They also released a trailer, visual, and production/VA news.
Kunihisa Sugishima, who’s previously directed Yu☆Gi☆Oh! and I’ve Been Killing Slimes (S2), will direct Mercedes and the Waning Moon. Jun Kumagai (The Water Magician and TEPPEN-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) will work on the anime’s series composition. Additional production staff includes:
- Nami Ueyama (In the Clear Moonlit Dusk) — character designs
- R・O・N — Music
- Shuhei Mutsuki — Music
Anna Nagase, who voiced Iroha in Cosmic Princess Kaguya!, will voice Mercedes Grünewald.

Mercedes and the Waning Moon Synopsis and Light Novel Details
Mercedes Grünewald reincarnated as a vampire in a noble family, but her future holds no assurances. As the child of a concubine, a lofty inheritance and succession are not in her future. Mercedes, her mom, and the old maid will likely end up on the streets when her father chooses an heir. Promising never to let that happen, Mercedes begins training for a task that even kids can do — dungeon crawling! After all, she knows that veteran adventurers can earn a comfy living.
Firehead originally self-published Mercedes and the Waning Moon: The Dungeoneering Feats of a Discarded Vampire Aristocrat on Shosetsuka ni Naro. The web novel ran from October 2018 to November 2022. TO Books (T.O Entertainment Inc.) acquired the web novel and began publishing it as a light novel in May 2021. The light novel features illustrations by KeG.
J-Novel Club publishes the English translation of the light novel.
