It’s been a while since we had a new iDOLM@STER anime to look forward to. However, that all changed when The iDOLM@STER Shiny Colors was announced! Four new idol groups are gearing up to take the stage and steal hearts. It’s a CGI series, much like the recently announced Pole Princess!! movie.
The iDOLM@STER Shiny Colors is a unique case. The series itself will consist of twelve episodes, which are set to release sometime in the second quarter of 2024. Despite that, theaters will be showing off the series in three parts, as though it were cut like a movie. The first part will premiere on October 27th, this year. The second part will premiere on November 24th, also in 2023. Lastly, the third part will premiere on January 5th, 2024.
Studio Polygon Pictures has released a trailer to promote the upcoming series. Fans will be able to listen to the opening theme song “Tsubasa Gravity.”
A home page has been set up to promote The iDOLM@STER Shiny Colors, in addition to an official Twitter page. Series updates, and behind-the-scenes information, as well as bonuses such as key arts and character bios, can be found there.
New Idols Take to the Stage
The iDOLM@STER Shiny Colors shines a spotlight on four new idol groups working at 283 (read as “Tsubasa”) Productions. The groups are Illumination Stars, L’Antiqua, Houkago Climax Girls, and Alstroemeria. Despite the abundance of idols, sixteen in total among those four groups, the trailer focused more on the idols of Illumination Stars.
Mano Sakuragi (voiced by Hitomi Sekine), Akari Kazuno (voiced by Rena Kondo), and Meguru Hachinomiya (voiced by Mayu Mineta) make up the idols of Illumination Stars. Though the trailer doesn’t give much away, and there’s not much in the way of a plot synopsis, there is a manga adaptation that might give us a clue as to what the story will be about.
The earliest chapters follow the Illumination Stars as they contemplate what it is to be an idol. Their answers all consist of the general theme of making people happy. The overworked Producer (voiced by Kyohei Natsume) prompted them to consider what sort of idols they wanted to be in order to better prepare them for the future.
The iDOLM@STER Shiny Colors Origins
This spin-off of the well-known iDOLM@STER series first took the stage as a life simulator browser game released on April 24th, 2018. The iDOLM@STER Shiny Colors was later released for iOS and Android on March 13th, 2019.
Akira Shinozaki has written and illustrated the aforementioned manga adaptation. Kadokawa Shoten published all five volumes between July 23rd, 2019 and August 26th, 2022 in Comic Newtype.
For those who need more cute idols in their lives, the J-List shop has a recommendation. The Frederica Miyamoto 1/7 Figure Soleil et Lune Ver. from the iDOLM@STER section is now available for pre-order.
