A man once seen as a one-in-a-generation detective has fallen on rough times. His eyes aren’t as sharp as they used to be, and a wonky hip slows him down. He won’t let that stop him from solving cases, even as he dodges the landlord who asks for rent. The old detective’s fortunes change when a cute and deadly girl asks to be his assistant. We’ll see if he can get a much-needed spring in his step when Mattaku Saikin no Tantei Tokitara (Detectives These Days, Really) premieres sometime in 2025.
Masakuni Igarashi released the original Mattaku Saikin no Tantei Tokitara manga series on April 27th, 2016. ASCII Media Works has since published fifteen volumes in Dengeki Maoh.
The old-time detective and his new assistant are as follows:
- Keiichiro Nagumo — Junichi Suwabe (Ryomen Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen). A once-great detective who has fallen on tough times.
- Mashiro Nakanishi — Kana Hanazawa (Ichika Nakano from The Quintessential Quintuplets). A brash martial artist who wants to become a great detective.

An Old Dog Learns New Tricks in Mattaku Saikin no Tantei Tokitara
Keiichiro Nagumo was once a great high school detective who solved cases that baffled even the police. Reporters and adoring female fans alike hung on every word. After twenty years on the job, his once budding career has seen a decline. Poor eyesight and a bad hip have slowed him down. Keiichiro can barely pay the rent on his office, and the clients aren’t exactly breaking down the door to see him.
Mashiro Nakanishi is a practitioner of the Ryukyu Karate martial arts and wants to put her skills to use as a detective. She’s held onto her dream since an early age. Despite his failing business and knowledge gap in modern technology and methodology, Mashiro is determined to become his assistant. Her impetuous attitude and modern common sense may prove effective for this detective who clings to the old ways.
