A wealthy, charming, and clever heiress has decided to apply her skills to police work. As a detective, she works with the authorities to solve crimes and capture criminals. Her direct superior has few detective skills, which makes her job more difficult. Fortunately, her butler is an excellent detective, but his tongue is too sharp for her liking. We’ll see how they get along in the field when The Dinner Table Detective (Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de) premieres sometime in April.
Tokuya Higashigawa and Yusuke Nakamura released the original The Dinner Table Detective novel series between September 2nd, 2010, and December 12th, 2012. Shogakukan has since published all three volumes. Fuji Television’s live-action adaptation premiered on October 18th, 2011.

The detective, her clever butler, and her superior are as follows:
- Reiko Hosho — Kana Hanazawa (Ichika Nakano from The Quintessential Quintuplets). The heiress of the Hosho zaibatsu. She works as a police detective.
- Kageyama — Yuki Kaji (Sabito from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). Reiko’s new butler. He has a sharp mind and an even sharper tongue.
- Kyoichiro Kazamatsuri — Mamoru Miyano (Doma from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). Reiko’s superior officer and the heir of Kazamatsuri Motors.
The animation studio Madhouse maintains a home page and a Twitter (X) page to promote The Dinner Table Detective. You can find more information about the series and key visuals there. A detective and butler solve crimes together.
The Dinner Table Detective Finds Inspiration Over a Meal
Reiko Hosho is a wealthy heiress and rookie detective at the Kunitachi City police department. She works under the inept police inspector Kyoichiro Kazamatsuri, who is also an heir to a wealthy company. As clever as Reiko is, her direct superior makes solving cases even more difficult. Despite Kazamatsuri’s promotion at a young age, he doesn’t have the detective skills required for his lofty position.

Whenever she clocks out for the day, Reiko wears fine clothing and sits at a lavish table for dinner. She’ll then consult with Kageyama, her new butler. He has a keen mind and is willing to help, but his sharp tongue offers much more than guidance. Kageyama will deride his boss whenever she asks what he thinks is a simple question or whenever she makes an incorrect deduction. His harsh remarks border on insulting, but he’ll often crack a case on the first try.
