The tale of the cat dragon is finally going to air! A group of adventurers unknowingly left a dragon egg orphaned in a cave. Such a tragic story would have a happier ending than others. A kind mother cat came along and adopted the dragon as one of her own, raising him as a cat alongside her kittens. We’ll see what sort of cat dragon he becomes when The Cat and the Dragon (Neko to Ryu) premieres sometime in July 2026.

Amara released the original The Cat and the Dragon novel on the user-generated website Shosetsuka ni Naro from September 6th, 2013, to June 18th, 2014. Mai Okuma provided the art for the light novel adaptation, which debuted on April 22nd, 2016. Takarajimasha has since published nine volumes. Izumi Sasaki provided the art for the manga adaptation, which debuted on September 22nd, 2017. Takarajimasha has since published twelve volumes in Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Web.
The Cat and the Dragon Cast
Three of the cute cats are as follows:
- Mama Nyan — Kikuko Inoue (Palm Siberia from Hunter × Hunter). Mama Nyan is the kind cat who adopted the dragon. She goes on to teach human mages how to use magic.
- Kurobane — Show Hayami (Kasugaigarasu from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). Kurobane is a hero among the cats. He later befriends the human prince.
- Shirotae — Fuka Izumi (Utena Hiiragi/Magia Baiser from Gushing Over Magical Girls). Shirotae dreams of controlling her own territory. She later befriends a human orphan.

The Cat and the Dragon Unite Two Species
A baby dragon became an orphan right after his mother gave birth to him. It wouldn’t be the first time that human adventurers ruthlessly took his family from him. A mother cat wandered into his cave with her kittens and adopted him after he hatched. Mama Nyan raised him like any other cat, teaching him to hunt, survive, and wield magic. She suddenly vanished before their eyes, spirited away by a young mage in need of a familiar and a mentor.
Nekoryu grew up and became the guardian of the magic cats who dwelled in the forest. Each succeeding generation knew him as the kind uncle who always offered them a home. As their guardian, he incinerated a group of adventurers who were hunting the cats and sent a warning to the human kingdom never to harm another forest cat again. Years later, cats and humans would become firm allies and friends. Cats would teach humans their magic, and the humans would defend the cats, all while the fierce cat dragon watched over them.
