It doesn’t really matter if you love Sword Art Online or hate it; I think we can all at least agree that the background music composed by Yuki Kajiura throughout its run has been overall pretty amazing. That’s why this announcement has got me all riled up and ready to throw my money at my laptop screen!
In an announcement that hit Twitter on Wednesday, July 23rd, the crew behind the franchise not only revealed that there will be an orchestral concert performed by the Tokyo New City Orchestra, which will feature actor Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (the voice of Kirito) as the narrator guiding the audience through the SAO saga, but it will be streamed live in select regions around the world (more specifically the USA, UK, Germany, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and “Others”).

Tickets are on sale now for about $32 USD via the official website, though there are a few things you should know before entering your credit card info. First off, the concert, which will feature music all the way from the first season all the way to the most recent season, will be live-streamed to regions around the world starting at 4 p.m. Japan Standard Time (12 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time/3 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time) on Saturday, July 3rd. It will not contain any English subtitles. If you want to watch this concert with subtitles, you will have to wait until July 17th, when the archived stream will become available, though you’ll have to be quick because the stream will only be available until July 24th.
If you want to enjoy one of the best parts of the entire Sword Art Online series but don’t want to actually watch four seasons worth of “a glorified harem” series as so many are quick to refer to it, this is probably going to be your absolute best opportunity. As someone who is a fan of the franchise and who has seen Kajiura live, just trust me on this when I say that this event is going to be a “can’t miss” concert!
