Last season, we were treated to the delightful spectral stylings of supernatural anime In/Spectre. For some, though, the show may not have ended up being quite what they were expecting. Equal parts comedic romance series and dialogue-heavy investigation story, the show ended up putting way more of a focus on character interaction and relationship building than pure wild ghost-busting action. If you’re someone who has a more action-oriented supernatural anime itch that needs scratching, you might want to check out Kemono Jihen (Monster Incidents). The anime adaptation of the Sho Aimoto manga of the same name was just recently revealed, and now we have our first look at the anime versions of the main cast.
The new visual for the upcoming Kemono Jihen anime adaptation comes from the June issue of Shueisha’s Jump SQ magazine, which the original manga is currently published in. The magazine issue also revealed the voice acting cast for the main crew of characters portrayed in the debut visual:
- Natsumi Fujiwara as Kabane Kusaka
- Junichi Suwabe as Kohachi Inugami
- Ayumu Murase as Akira
- Natsuki Hanae as Shiki Tademaru
The Kemono Jihen anime is being produced at anime studio Aija-do, which previously worked on series such as Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu, Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen, and the currently airing anime adaptation of Kakushigoto. The series will be directed by Masaya Fujimori, who previously worked on You Are Umasou and Izetta: The Last Witch. Noboru Kimura, previously a staff member on Amagami SS+, Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!, and Gundam Build Divers, will be in charge of series composition and scripts. Character designs are being done by Nozomi Tachibana, who previously contributed art to Ensemble Stars! and worked on ClassicaLoid as an episode director and animation director.
A description of the original Kemono Jihen manga, according to MyAnimeList:
When dead animals mysteriously start appearing in a remote village, a specialist from Tokyo named Kohachi Inugami is brought in to identify the cause. Upon arriving, Inugami finds a young boy named Kabane working in the fields and quickly befriends him, eventually bringing him on to help solve the case.
As the two get closer to the truth, Inugami’s suspicion that Kabane is more than human begins to grow stronger and he decides to employ the boy at his detective office, dedicated to solving cases related to the supernatural.
