Sugar Apple Fairy Tale is about a confectioner who bakes sweets and the fairy she hires as her bodyguard. Yes, we combined baking pastries with magic. Buckle up because it just gets more fun from here. Season 1 has already finished, and very recently, too. This should keep people new to the series happy until Season 2 airs this July 2023. If they need further incentives, here’s a lovely trailer.
J.C. Staff is still working on the series after doing such a great job of adapting Season 1. They have maintained a promotional home page and an official Twitter account to keep fans new and current updated on the series. Extra features, such as the below key visual, can be found there.
The Baker and the Fairy
Sugar Apple Fairy Tale seemingly has a simple premise, but things develop below the crust. Ann Halford, as voiced by Yuka Nukui, is the series’ protagonist. She is a Silver Sugar artisan, someone skilled in making sweet foods. Ann plans to follow in her deceased mother’s footsteps and become a Silver Sugar Master. This is a title bestowed only by members of royalty, so she must do great things to prove herself.
Ann hired Shall Fen Shall, who is voiced by Masaaki Mizunaka, a fairy, to be her bodyguard. In this world, fairies are treated as property, and they are to be loyal to the one who takes one of their wings. So technically, Ann owns Shall. However, she wished to befriend him, so she returned his wing to him. Even so, he remained with her, despite his general distrust of humans. He was friends with a human girl named Elizabeth, then humans murdered her and enslaved him, so his “distrust” is very understandable.
As the series progresses, Shall and Ann become more than friends.
