While there are several manga that I’m enjoying at the moment such as Way of the Househusband (it’s just a shame about that anime adaptation), the absolute best manga out there right now is the hit action-comedy Spy x Family. A big reason for that is because of one character, a telepathic girl named Anya who is so hilariously adorable that she puts both Renge and Yotsuba on notice. The main thing that makes Anya so special to the series, however, is her eagerness to please and stay a part of her newly found adopted family, a fact which Shonen Jump recognizes.
Sunday, June 20th, is Father’s Day in many parts of the world, including Japan and the USA. To celebrate, Shonen Jump is seeking suggestions from readers on what Anya should do for her adopted father, Loid “Twilight” Forger, to mark the occasion. To submit your suggestion (in Japanese), visit the special website that Shonen Jump has set up. In exchange, you’ll get a downloadable wallpaper. While you’re there, be sure to check out the 30-minute animation featuring Anya studying to please her parents while some soft music plays in the background.
Now, before you get your hopes up of using this as a springboard towards internet fame as “the person who got their idea published in Spy x Family,” keep in mind that Shonen Jump is making no promises that any of the submitted ideas will actually be used. This could very well be a simple publicity stunt to draw some attention towards the series (not that it needs the help). Either way, it’s still a great way to get an exclusive wallpaper which, if you’re a collector, is never a bad thing.
Spy x Family continues to be one of my favorite things in the world right now. The world that author Tatsuya Endo has created is just dark enough that you wouldn’t want to live there but also just sweet enough that you don’t mind visiting the Forger family once every couple of weeks when new chapters are published.
