If you’re looking forward to reading the latest new chapter of the award-winning manga series Spy x Family this weekend, you’re going to be quite sad in a minute or so.
According to a tweet sent out by the editor of Spy x Family, there will be no new chapter of Spy x Family this weekend which is sad enough as is. What makes it even worse for fans outside of Japan is what we’ll be missing out on instead.

In the tweet, editor Shihei Lin revealed that the main story will take a breather but will return in two weeks. What we’re getting instead of a new Spy x Family chapter this weekend, however, could be just as good as Japanese fans will get to read through a special one-shot titled I Spy written by original author Tatsuya Endo. Lin described the story of I Spy as the origin of Spy x Family and says that it will contain a special commentary about the story of its production.
Unfortunately, I have to pile on the bad news as I can also confirm as per my sources at Viz Media that this special one-shot chapter will not run outside of Japan and there is currently no set date on when (or even if) it will be published in English.
This is a heavy blow for fans of the franchise that will get an anime adaptation in 2022 but to be fair, author Endo deserves a little break as he just wrapped up one of the most intense story arcs of the entire series, which was filled with almost non-stop action. While I’m bummed that I won’t be able to read this special one-shot, I can be patient and wait for it to appear in the future (hopefully).
With any luck though, Endo can get back into the saddle soon and keep producing that sweet content that I’ve been loving from chapter one. If you haven’t read Spy x Family yet, I suggest you hightail it over to Shonen Jump and get caught up now rather than wait for the anime because, mark my words, this series is going to be huge in about a year.
