Forget the winter holidays. Because the best thing happening to all of us this December is the Spy x Family Code: White movie! As an early present to all of us, they uploaded the first promotional video to the Toho Animation YouTube page!
Telling an original story penned by manga author Tatsuya Endo, Spy x Family Code: White hits theaters in Japan on December 22nd. There haven’t been any announcements made regarding when fans outside Japan will get to watch this release. But stay tuned to the J-List blog for more information when it becomes available.
The even better news is that studios WIT STUDIO and Cloverworks are continuing their partnership, co-producing the animation for the movie. However, they filled the crew with promoted names. I say this because the second season is currently airing, which probably has the primary staff pretty busy.
They have promoted Takeshi Katagiri from assistant director up to being the primary director for the movie. He’ll be working off scripts penned by Ichiro Okouchi, who is being promoted from series composition. Kazuaki Shimada, who has worked on the anime from the beginning, drew character designs for the movie. If you listened closely during the promotional video, you also heard the theme song, “Soulsoup,” performed by Official HiGE DANdism.
Spy x Family getting an original movie with an entirely original story makes me happy on a spiritual level. I’m a little annoyed about the lack of international announcements. But I’m still very excited about the day when I’m going to get to watch this movie with my fellow anime nerds in a theater. I don’t care what is happening that night. I will rearrange my life if it means getting to see this.
Speaking of Spy x Family, if you want to bring home some of that joy Anya feels when she sees a platter of good food, check out this Bond the Dog plushie from the J-List store. Remember that if you plan on ordering a holiday gift, you’ll want to shop at least a month ahead to increase the probability of receiving it by December 25th!
