As the resident lover of all things Spy x Family here at the J-List Blog, one of my wonderful co-workers specifically tagged me with this news on our private Discord server. This made what had already been a great night into an unapologetically fantastic night.
Every year the Shonen Jump team holds the Jump Festa event and mostly delivers big news about some of the most popular titles in the world. This year did not break that trend. During the first presentation on the second day, the Spy x Family team revealed that not only is the anime getting a second season in 2023 (episode count not specified) along with a brand new, original story theatrical movie also before the end of next year! To celebrate the announcements, author Tatsuya Endo drew a special illustration which was posted on social media.

By this point, it feels like a safe bet that most anime fans have become at least vaguely familiar with the Forger family within the last twelve months. Anya and Yor are both constant meme sources and Loid/Twilight earned a place on just about every “Hot Anime Husbando of 2022” list that my eyes came across this month. What makes me even more excited about this coming year is the knowledge I have tucked away in the back of my mind regarding what is coming up next in the television anime adaptation.
Spy x Family marks one of the very few times in my life where I actually read the manga before watching the anime, as I strongly prefer to go the other way around. While I absolutely refuse to spoil anything regarding what is going to happen, I am also eager for this chain of events to begin because it has been a very long time since I’ve felt such confidence that not only is this story arc going to be fun due to its writing, but also because I know the staff is going to make the entire thing beautiful to watch.
Spy x Family has yet to reach anything close to its peak. There is still plenty of room for this series to grow (an international television broadcast would be an amazing gift for this series), and I feel confident that the second season and an international rollout of the original movie are going to go a long way towards making that into a reality.
