In a data report released by Sensor Tower Store Intelligence, it has been revealed that Aniplex’s popular smartphone game Fate/Grand Order has reached a gross of $3 billion USD worldwide as of March 2019. Detailed data has revealed that the 82% of Fate/Grand Order’s gross sales ($2.46 billion USD) came from Japan, while the rest are from China (12% of iOS users, $360 million USD), and the United States (3%, $90 million USD).

The gross sales are equal to a popular PlayStation 4 video game title that sells around 50 million copies priced each at $60 USD. Kultur, a Japanese gaming site reports that the game has earned more than the entire 32-year history of the Metal Gear series in just four years.

Last year, the popular mobile game was ranked No. 2 for its global revenue of $84.3 million USD. In the United States, it placed at No. 59. In relation to this, Sensor Tower stated that “this still a significant amount of revenue for a market where the title’s source material is considerably less well-known than in Asian territories.”

Since its release in 2015, Fate/Grand Order has been one of the most popular series in the Fate franchise. It has gained a couple of adaptations in the form of anime, manga, a stage play, and an arcade game. It was also released in the United States and Canada in June 2017. The Japanese version of the game reached over 13 million downloads in May 2018 and 14 million as of August 2018.

The Arc 2 prologue was launched in the game’s Japanese version in late 2017, which was then followed with the first chapter released in April 2018.

In a survey, 982 users responded that they have spent more than 200,000 yen ($1,837 USD) on micro-transactions last year. This is considered so far as the highest spending bracket for the game. One responded in the survey however admitted that they have spent around 10 million yen ($91,831 USD) just to get the needed items for the gacha rolls.

With the smartphone and mobile game industry still continuing to flourish until this day, there’s seem to be no stopping the growing hype and fanbase for this awesome franchise.
