Surprisingly, the announcement has revealed the story for the upcoming movie — which will be titled That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Scarlet Bonds (Japanese title: Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Guren no Kizuna — will feature an original story written by the original creator, Fuse. It was further revealed that the movie will open in Japan this coming November.
The story of the movie takes place in the country of Razha which is to the west of Tempest. While visiting the area, Rimuru and his friends get involved in two storylines. The first features a young girl with mysterious power and the conspiracy that revolves around her. The second involves an ogre named Hiiro who used to highly respect Benimaru (but judging by that promotional video, that might have changed at some point in the story’s canon).
It’s a little surprising to me that the movie is going to go the original story route, but it makes perfect sense. One thing that I’ve learned from watching the first two seasons is that That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime likes to take its time with telling their stories. Never in a rush, this is an isekai that tells the story at a leisurely pace, so I can understand why they wouldn’t want to rush through an entire arc in a single movie. Who do they think they are? Sword Art Online?
Regardless, the above premiere month for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Scarlet Bonds is good for Japan only. However, with FuniRoll streaming both television seasons plus the spinoff Slime Diaries that aired last year in the middle of the nine-month Slime Isekai marathon, it feels likely that they won’t let fans on this side of the Pacific wait for long before it hits theaters in North America.
