It’s been a while since the first season of The Dangers in My Heart aired, and there was much rejoicing. The most popular girl in the school took a liking to a boy who had some darker thoughts about her. Somehow, the relationship didn’t end in tragedy. This leads us to a second season, where we have two new cast members to fawn over. We’ll see how our odd couple is when the series premieres sometime in January 2024. Until then, we can enjoy the new trailer.
The Dangers in My Heart began as a manga series written and illustrated by Norio Sakurai. Akita Shoten started publishing the series on March 8th, 2018, and nine volumes have been released since.
Our idol, her introvert, and a friend are as follows:
- Anna Yamada — Hina Yomiya (Minami Kotobuki in Oshi no Ko). She is a popular and talented idol who draws both men and women to her. Despite her idyllic life and positive attitude, she has her own insecurities to deal with.
- Kyotaro Ichikawa — Shun Horie (Amethio in Pokémon Horizons: The Series). A boy who begins the series with typical chuunibyou tendencies. His love for Anna changes things for him.
- Moeko Sekine — Megumi Han (Penny Polendina in RWBY: Ice Queendom). Anna’s gyaru friend has more social awareness than others. She keeps close to Anna and Kyotaro to help them out of issues. However, Anna is jealous of how close she is to Kyotaro.
Shin-Ei Animation has maintained a home page, a Twitter (X) page, and even a TikTok page to promote The Dangers in My Heart. Additional series information and the new Key Visuals can be found there.
Shin-Ei Animation’s New Love Story
Shin-Ei was founded in December 1965, though it was known as A-Production. Daikichiro Kusube, previously an animator for Toei Animation, founded this studio. Shin-Ei’s most famous works are Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan. It’s evident from their catalog that they’re not keen to stick to one genre of anime. The animators have recently worked on The Dangers in My Heart, The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic, and The World Ends with You the Animation. Shin-Ei also worked on Stitch!, the anime adaptation of the Disney animated movie and cartoon Lilo & Stitch.
Love and Chuunibyou
Though there are some delusions, the “love” part is genuine. The Dangers in My Heart follows a guy with some real delusions, like wanting to kill the school idol so he could keep her corpse for himself. That opening sounds like the start of a horror series. However, we get a better story in that the guy gets close to the idol without the need for stalker tactics.
Kyotaro Ichikawa is a self-imposed loner who reads anatomy books while dreaming up ways of murdering his popular classmates. His chuunibyou delusions, lack of communication skills, and his low self-esteem don’t help his situation either. On the opposite side, Anna Yamada is an incredibly popular school idol who sees both women and men fawn over her. These two find some time alone while Kyotaro is reading alone in the library, where Anna likes to enjoy snacks in private. Anna notices him and slowly warms his cold and lonely heart. His delusions of murder and corpse collecting vanish in favor of trying to form a genuine bond with her.
