In the last few years, the way English dubs of anime have gotten released in America has changed dramatically. In the past, you would get new English-voiced versions of your favorite anime through awkwardly censored Saturday morning broadcasts or DVD packs that came out every five months. Funimation spearheaded the trend of simuldubs, which were English language dubs of anime series that were still currently airing in Japan. Funimation still produces these dubs, as do other online streaming services like HIDIVE and Netflix. Every now and then, though, we still get new English dubs released exclusively as part of home video releases for specific anime. One such release is the upcoming Sentai Filmworks produced Blu-ray edition of After the Rain, which is getting a full English dub when it comes to home video this year.
Produced as part of the upcoming Blu-ray release for the series, the After the Rain English dub is full of talented English voice actors, including Erica Muse, John Hallmark, and Ned Gayle. The remainder of the cast is as follows:
- Luci Christian as Akira
- Jason Douglas as Kondo
- Shelley Calene-Black as Akira’s Mother/Angelica

The English dub of After the Rain is directed by John Swasey, with Marta Bechtol in charge of writing the ADR scripts. Patrick Marrero is the audio engineer on the project, while Brent Marshall is in charge of the English mix. You’ll be able to get your eyes and ears on the promising dub when the home video release of After the Rain is made available on June 30th.
Sentai Filmworks describes the series:
After the Rain is a story about life’s crossroads. There are moments great and small in which circumstance and choices, in equal measure, define a person. Akira Tachibana was once the ace of a track club, but an injury forced her to quell her passion for sports. Masami Kondo, a divorced father, had ambitions of being a writer and now manages a restaurant, where Akira works. It is the intersection of Akira and Masami’s seemingly disconnected lives that makes each of them reconsider and redefine everything about themselves.
After the Rain was produced at Wit Studio, the prolific animation company behind Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga. It was directed by Ayumu Watanabe, who previously worked on Space Brothers, Mysterious Girlfriend X, Gurazeni, and Ace Attorney. Series composition was handled by Deko Akao, who also worked on First Love Monster, Noragami, and Snow White with the Red Hair. Yuka Shibata of Kimi no Todoke and Magical Sisters Yoyo & Nene fame was in charge of character design and chief animation direction. Finally, music was composed by Ryo Yoshimata, who previously composed for Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children.
