It seems that fans of the hit isekai series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation are going to have to wait a little while longer to find out what happens to Rudy and his friends. Due to various unmentioned circumstances, the second cour of the series will not air until October, rather than July. A repeat of the first cour will air on Japanese networks instead.
The good news is that Funimation confirmed on Wednesday, May 19th, via their official blog that they will simulcast the second cour upon its release. They also posted a brand new key visual.
If this series sounds familiar, it might be because it courted controversy a couple of times this year since it started gaining attention from the mainstream anime community. Starting with the anime, the series was banned on the Chinese streaming site Bilibili in February 2021. That didn’t help matters at all.
Then there was the issue with the official English translation which was toned down and removed references to rape. Publisher Seven Seas took heat from fans for that, which caused them to release a statement saying that they were going to reconsider their localization decisions with future volumes of the series.
Animated by Studio Bind, Mushoku Tensei has Manabu Okamoto sitting as the director, working off character designs from Kazutaka Sugiyama. The series is an isekai that features a homeless man who dies after an encounter with Truck-kun. Reborn in a world of swords and magic as a baby, the man decides to live his new life without regrets. Growing up with an affinity for magic, the man, now named Rudy, travels forth and grows stronger while meeting new people and having adventures.
Unfortunately, this series aired during my “Lost Season” of anime (January was a very busy month for me) so I haven’t watched it yet. I can only take so much isekai at one time! If I have an extra three months to squeeze this one in, however, I’ll catch up.
