As you read this, at least a billion people are going “#NewYearNewMe!” For about 950,000,000 of those people, nothing is going to change. But do you know what is going to change? What is going to change is the quality and graphics in School Days. School Days Remastered is now available for preorder over at the JAST store!

School Days Remastered Deets
What does School Days Remastered include? What upgrades can you expect? The remastered version of the game keeps the full animation style of the original, but now it’s in HD! You can watch Makoto get a bad ending in a game that doesn’t look like it was made on a potato some twenty years ago. We also get what JAST is calling “quality-of-life” features, which include autosave and adjustable saving. To paraphrase the announcer in Sabagebu!, the fragility of today’s youth is concerning. Back in the day, you’d speedrun a VN with no save points. School Days Remastered brings us 20+ endings, and now you can revisit key branching points.
But why do that? This is School Days! No one plays this for wholesome moments. If you want fluffy romances, buy this doujin. And when the bad end comes, always remember, kids, take the first hit and make sure it’s not a KO. After that, it’s self-defense and Kung Fu fighting!
If you don’t have the School Days HQ visual novel, then you’ll have to fork over $35.99 (currently on sale) for School Days Remastered. You’ll need a computer with Windows 7 or above, at least 8 GB of RAM, and at least 30 GB of free storage space. You can preorder the visual novel here.
JAST has not announced the visual novel’s release date.

Franchise Details
0verflow produced and released the original School Days VN back in April 2005. They then released a remastered version titled School Days HQ in Japan in October 2010 and in North America in June 2012. School Days Remastered was released in Japan on December 19, 2025. Several spin-offs; Shiny Days, Summer Days, Island Days, and Cross Days, were later created.
School Days received a manga adaptation by Homare Sakazuki. Junji Goto and Ryuna Okada also adapted the visual novel into two light novels: School Days: Sekai Hen and School Days: Kotonoha Hen. Takuya Baba and Junji Goto (illustrator) collaborated on School Days: Kimi to Iru, Sora. Hiro Akiduki authored the final light novel, School Days: Innocent Blue.
Studio TNK adapted the light novel into a TV anime and two OVAs.
The story follows Makoto Itou, a high schooler who’s desperately in love with his shy schoolmate, Kotonoha Katsura. While Makoto initially lacks the balls to approach her, Kotonoha’s friend Sekai Saionji helps him in his romantic endeavors. And Sekai succeeds in getting him involved with Kotonoha. But when Seika decides that NTR is her calling and she wants Makoto for herself, the quaint romance Makoto envisioned with Kotonoha quickly derails.

Would you like to check some other visual novels besides School Days Remastered? If you’re a fan of horror games, I recommend Daidai and Gotcha Gotcha Games’ The Aquarium does not Dance for the Nintendo Switch. If you’re looking for an actual fluffy romance, definitely check out SukeraSomero’s OshiRabu: Waifus Over Husbandos + Love or Die. Thanks for reading all my articles this past year, hopefully at the end of 2026 I can wish all of you a Happy New Year once again! Ja ne!
