SAO Spinoff, Gun Gale Online, Gets Second Season

One of the most successful pieces of fan fiction in history, Gun Gale Online, is getting a second anime season!

I’m sure most of us know by now that the second season of last decade’s phenomenon (Sword Art Online) happened in a game called Gun Gale Online. In this game, guns are the primary weapon of choice, plus the world is much grittier. In 2018, an anime spinoff was broadcast, occurring in that same game. However, it wasn’t written or even created by the original author, Reki Kawahara, but by the author of another famous series, Keiichi Sigsawa (Kino’s Journey).

Even better news is that this series will feature the same lead actress reprising her role as LLENN, Tomori Kusunoki, along with the same primary staff members from the first season at Studio 3Hz.

This is delightful news for those who gave the first season a chance. While many were turned off at the idea of Sword Art Online getting its own spinoff series, those people were fools. In the first season, we meet a college student named Karen Kohiruimaki. She’s insecure that she’s six feet tall in a country not built for that. When advised to try virtual reality, she skips through game after game but rage-quits them all when they all want her avatar to be tall like her. This is when she discovers Gun Gale Online and becomes the cutest little cinnamon roll ever to wield a submachine gun with deadly accuracy. Gun Gale Online was so much better than anyone ever imagined and featured one of the sweetest and most relatable lead characters of 2018.

Unfortunately, no further details were released regarding a release date or its story. But if it tells a story that is half as good as the first season, this will be a project to watch out for!

In the meantime, if you want to bring home Sword Art Online’s Best Girl, we have many figures available, including this 1/7 figure of casual Asuna.
