Love makes fools of us all, even legendary hitmen. Sakamoto Days tells the story of one such peerless killer who met the right woman and settled down to start a family. But it won’t be easy sailing if his former colleagues have anything to say about it. We’ll see how he handles his old foes while protecting his family when this anime series premieres sometime in January 2025. Let’s enjoy the new trailer until then.
Yuto Suzuki released the original Sakamoto Days manga series on November 21st, 2020, with Shueisha publishing sixteen volumes in Weekly Shonen Jump since then.
Our portly retired hitman with superhuman abilities is as follows:
- Taro Sakamoto — Tomokazu Sugita (Tomoyasu Chikazoku “Skeptic” from My Hero Academia). Taro is one of the most skillful hitmen in the world. He met a cute girl and retired from his bloody life. His rotund physique diminishes in stressful situations.

Sakamoto Days of a Retired Hitman
Taro Sakamoto is a prestigious hitman in the underworld. His enemies fear him, and his colleagues admire him. There is no mission that he cannot complete to perfection. Taro didn’t have much of a life outside of his assassinations. Things changed for him when he visited a convenience store and fell in love with the beautiful clerk behind the counter. Taro and Aoi immediately began their relationship right away. Taro retired from his hitman job sometime after they started going out at Aoi’s insistence.
Many years later, Taro is now an overweight everyman who runs the shop and helps around the house. He and Aoi are married with a young daughter named Hana. But the clairvoyant Shin Asakura, a former colleague, disturbs his ordinary life. Shin was hired to eliminate Taro because he left the organization. Taro soundly defeated him, though Shin didn’t have the heart to kill him anyway. Shin’s plea to spare Taro fell on deaf ears, leading to a fight with the criminals. After Taro and Shin teamed up to defeat the boss and his men, Shin became the shop’s newest employee.
