Yeah, I think by now you already know what we’re about to say. This time the victim is the upcoming Sailor Moon Eternal movies.
Due to the world crisis, both parts of the Sailor Moon Eternal movie will be delayed to early 2021. The first movie will be released to Japanese theaters on January 8th, 2021 and the second will premiere a month later on February 11th. This replaces the previous release date of Friday, September 11th that was previously reported.
Eternal takes place in the Dead Moon arc of the original manga, which features the unicorn Helios (played by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka) and lots of Chibi Usa.
Sailor Moon Crystal is a reboot of the original 90s anime, Sailor Moon. It has run for three seasons so far, telling the original story at a much sped-up pace than the first incarnation. In previous updates, we learned that Chiaki Kon will return as the director, while Kazuyuki Fudeyasu will take over for Yuuji Kobayashi as the writer. The animation will be co-produced by both Studio DEEN and Toei Animation.
Viz Media licensed the first three seasons of Sailor Moon Crystal. They describe the story as:
Sailor Moon Crystal retells the origins of Sailor Moon, the kindhearted crybaby destined to protect the world from dark forces. When the evil Queen Metalia and her Dark Kingdom threaten Earth, Sailor Moon and her fellow Sailor Guardians must find the only power capable of vanquishing this ancient evil — the Legendary Silver Crystal! But a mysterious man calling himself Tuxedo Mask is also after this sacred treasure. What is his connection to Sailor Moon? And will the Sailor Guardians be able to find the Silver Crystal before the world falls into eternal darkness?
So yeah, more sad news, but I think by now we’re all getting pretty used to being patient for our anime, right?
