It’s common for people to find renewed strength and acceptance in sports. A girl with low self-esteem and anemia joins the boat club to row with her new friends. Ganbatte Ikimasshoi (Give It All) tells the tale of a girl who stands tall as her boat skims along the waves. We’ll see how her new club performs when this movie premieres on October 25th, 2024.
Yoshiko Shikimura released the original Ganbatte Ikimasshoi novel sometime in July 1996. Gentosha re-released it on June 10th, 2005. Itsumichi Isomura’s live-action movie adaptation premiered on October 10th, 1998. Shigemitsu Keiichi’s live-action television series premiered on July 5th, 2005.
Three of our cute rowers are as follows:
- Etsuko Murakami — Sora Amamiya (Illustrious from Azur Lane). A withdrawn girl who pretends to be bold and joyous. She joins the all-girl rowing club to change herself.
- Riina Takahashi — Rie Takahashi (Pepper from Urusei Yatsura). A fun and talented transfer student who inspires Etsuko to join the club and row with her.
- Hime Saeki — Miku Ito (Frenika from Sword Art Online: Alicization). Etsuko’s cute and outgoing childhood friend. She does her best to drag Etsuko to different fun places.

Get Out There and Ganbatte Ikimasshoi
Etsuko Murakami seems to be a bold, energetic girl, but this is all an act. She drifts without aim or purpose. Her self-esteem is at an all-time low, and it doesn’t help that others compare Etsuko to her older and more accomplished sister. Etsuko’s attitude changes after watching her school’s rowing club compete. Seeing their skill and harmony dissuaded her from trying at all. She didn’t think much of her own skill, after all. However, the transfer student Riina Takahashi convinced her to give it a go.
Etsuko recruited her childhood friend Hime to help her revive the school’s all-girl boating club. Despite her lack of interest in sports and her anemia, Etsuko was excited to try rowing. They competed against another team after fully reviving the club with a full roster of members. Their first round didn’t go so well, but Etsuko’s desire to give it her all reinvigorated them to go all out. She finally became the courageous person she always pretended to be.
