Back in April, we got the news that adorable food-fantasy anime, Restaurant to Another World would be getting a second season at a then unspecified date. Now, thanks to the anime’s website, not only do we have a release date, but we get a brand new preview video and new information about the season’s premiere.
The preview video not only reveals an October 1st release date for season two, but that the first season will be coming to Blu-Ray on September 24th. While those who attended Crunchyroll Expo managed to see this season’s first episode in advance, Japan once again takes things a step further with their season premieres. Nine theaters in Japan will showcase the first two episodes of the season a month earlier on September 11th, along with a special talk session involving the cast.
The original cast once again reprises their roles from the first season, but the cast, crew, and even the animation studio have some surprises for fans. Original animation studio SILVER LINK is out this season and will be replaced by OLM. Yasukazu Shoji comes onboard the crew as the new character designer, and Nao Toyama lends her voice to not only the season’s ending song but a new character as well. She’ll play Hilda, a demon mercenary nicknamed “Night Strider” for her keen vision and hearing.
For those unfamiliar with Restaurant to Another World, the series started out as a web novel in 2013, became a published light novel in 2015, a manga in 2016, and an anime in 2017. All in all, a fairly linear path for a franchise, seeing as most light novels or manga don’t get the kind of speedy turnover that Restaurant to Another World has enjoyed so far. And why shouldn’t it? It’s nice to have a laid-back anime that’s about something people can relate to without any extra drama. For those looking for more of an official summary of the series, it can be found below:
“Western Cuisine Nekoya” seems like a typical restaurant on the outside, but it hides an amazing secret: on Saturdays, portals to another world appear that allow all manner of unearthly creatures to sit down for a nice meal. Elves, dragons, or anyone else who wants to sample our world’s cuisine is welcome to partake before returning to their world, sated and ready for their next quest. This lovely light novel series, never before published in English, celebrates even the simplest of our foods as fantastical adventures in fine dining. Bon appétit!
