Set to premiere on Tuesday, January 12th, the production committee behind the upcoming original anime series Wonder Egg Priority has released a brand new two-minute promotional video to get some last-minute eyes on the project.
The animation will be produced by studio Cloverworks (Darling in the Franxx, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, The Promised Neverland). This series is coming across as very much an experimental anime as the original concept and scripts are being credited to anime newbie, Shinji Nojima. The director for this project is Shin Wakabayashi (22/7) and Saki Takahashi is providing the character designs. The series has already been licensed outside of Japan by Funimation, who will stream the series on their platform soon after its release in Japan.
The cast for the series reads as follows (character names first):
Ai Ohto: Kanata Aikawa
Neiru Aonuma: Tomori Kusunoki
Rika Kawai: Shuka Saito
Momoe Sawaki: Hinaki Yano
The story is about a fourteen-year-old girl named Ai who, while wandering around one night, comes across a mysterious “wonder egg” which grants her wishes. As she meets other girls who have also obtained “wonder eggs”, Ai starts to discover the power within herself to grow and change.
Original anime series can be hit or miss. Sometimes we get something absolutely amazing and sometimes we get something that is best left forgotten, but no matter what we end up getting, the important thing here is that at least they’re trying. While it’s always fun to see an adaptation of an established and already popular manga or light novel, original stories where nobody knows what’s going to happen next are also fun and something that we should see more of.
