Earlier this month, J-List Blog said Magical Girl Magical Destroyers is why fans should be excited about anime in 2023. An update to the official website for the original story anime from Bibury Animation Studio on Friday, January 20th, revealed two new promotional videos. In the first video, they introduced fans to one of the main characters, Otaku Hero. The second video unveils a brand-new tie-in mobile game, Magical Girl Destroyers Kai.
While we don’t have much information regarding story details, the broad outline from the above promotional video is that Magical Girl Magical Destroyers took place in 2008. It features a group of superheroes fighting against the forces that seek to destroy otaku culture. The megane character we met just now is our main protagonist, Otaku Hero.
As mentioned above, that’s not the only video the staff posted. The second video revealed that a tie-in mobile game will begin pre-registration on February 1st. The game will feature all the same main characters and voice actors as in the anime, plus several additional original characters. Peace, the first character to be revealed, is voiced by Sumire Uesaka, who will also perform the game’s theme song, “Rebellion.” Unfortunately, there is no word on if the game will be released worldwide or only in Japan.

The more I learn about Magical Girl Magical Destroyers, the more intrigued I am. Last year, we were all treated to the incredible original story series Akiba Maid War which turned the world of maid cafes on its head. The question remaining in my head is how a studio with less experience will handle this original project. While the crew has big intentions for Magical Girl Magical Destroyers, it remains to be seen if they can make the most of this opportunity. Can they get on the map when the series premieres this coming April?
