News flash: I’m middle-aged and love to see anime that stars characters that are around my age. Maybe this is why I’m so attracted to the upcoming idol anime, Eternal Boys?
Set to premiere in Japan on October 10th, 2022, Eternal Boys is another original story anime that features middle-aged men from all walks of life forming the idol group Eternal Boys and attempting to make it big in the cutthroat world of Japanese entertainment. Along the way, they will face hardship and discrimination but will continue to do their best. LIDEN FILMS will produce the animation for this series with migmi serving as the director. They will work off scripts written by Kimiko Ueno.
The cast list reads as follows (as always, character names first):
Kentarō Sanada: Daisuke Hirakawa
Naoki Ishida: Katsuyuki Konishi
Haru Asai: Jun Fukuyama
Tsuyoshi Imagawa: Daisuke Namikawa
Makoto Kakizaki: Nozomu Sasaki
Fukuko Manda: Yūko Noichi
Pepechan: Haruka Chisuga
Ren Ukita: Yumiri Hanamori
Nicolai Asakura: Hiroki Touchi
As stated in my introduction, as the years’ progress, I find myself more and more disenchanted with high school anime. I’m certainly not saying that high school anime is bad by any stretch of the imagination but, every so often, I find myself wanting to identify with the main character of whatever anime I happen to be watching. It’s hard to do so when the protagonist is young and lacking in life experience.
It’s my fervent hope that along with the trend of seeing original stories, we’ll also get to see more stories that feature adult characters having to deal with adult problems. It doesn’t have to be every series or even every other series, but it would be nice if Japan could throw a bone to the older anime fans around the world every once in a while.
