With the state of the world as it is, there are only a few things that are really helping to push me forward and motivate me to get out of bed each morning. One of those things is the fact that, according to an update on the official website, fans around the world will get to see one of the iyashikeiest series to ever iyashikei. Non Non Biyori, returns for its third season on January 10th!
The announcement hit the news wires on Sunday, November 22nd, along with a brand new promotional video, a wintery key visual (seen above), and even a couple of new character announcements! Is it my birthday? Because it really feels like my birthday.
As you can see in the new promotional video, the series will feature an opening theme song titled “Tsugihagi Moyou” by the returning nano.RIPE and a closing theme song titled “Tadaima” sung by the four main voice actors.
Also worth noting in that new video is a couple of new characters who will move to the countryside to hang out with the returning characters (character names first):
Akane Shinoda: Aimi Tanaka
Shiori: Misaki Kuno
Originally a manga series created by Atto, Non Non Biyori began its serialization in Comic Alive magazine in September 2009 and has been collected into fifteen volumes in Japan as of May 2020. Seven Seas is releasing the manga in English and they describe the story as:
Welcome to the countryside village of Asahigaoka, a quaint town far-removed from the hustle-and-bustle of the big city. You couldn’t imagine a more isolated setting in all of Japan. So when Tokyo-raised elementary school student Hotaru Ichijo transfers to the tiny Asahigaoka Branch School due to her father’s job, she’s in for the culture shock of her life!
Join Hotaru and her new friends, the eccentric Renge, and the mischevious sisters Natsumi and Komari, as they share daily adventures in the idyllic Japanese countryside.
The first anime adaptation aired in 2013 and the second season, Non Non Biyori: Repeat, aired in 2015. The third season of Non Non Biyori will feature animation from the returning studio Silver Link as well as all the same cast and crew that produced the first two seasons.
If you’re a fan of healing anime with a nice slow pace and beautiful, lush backgrounds you’re in luck with Non Non Biyori! Plus, if you start now you’ll have plenty of time to catch up with the first two seasons before Non Non Biyori: Nonstop premieres in January!
