As the saying goes, what’s old is new again, which is oh so true for the upcoming summer anime, Night Head 2041. And no, that’s not the title of a futuristic hentai.
In a brand new promotional video that hit the internet on Wednesday, June 23rd, we not only learned about the cast and story but also learned that the series will premiere on Japanese television stations on July 14th! Check it out!
Based on the 1992 live-action Japanese drama series simply titled Night Head, this sci-fi series is all about a hidden war between a pair of psychic brothers who live in a world where psychics are persecuted and another pair of brothers who are tasked with apprehending them. In case you’re wondering, there was another anime series in 2006 called Night Head Genesis which features the same pair of psychic brothers.
What’s cool about this particular installment in the franchise is that the original director of the live-action series, George Iida, is writing this anime. Rounding out the crew is Shirogumi handling the animation production with Takamitsu Hirakawa sitting at the helm as the director. Yutaka Yamada is composing the background music.
In terms of the cast, we can also confirm that the psychic brothers, Naoto and Naoya Kirihara (which I’m sure won’t be confusing in the least), will be played by Daisuke Ono and Nobunaga Shimazaki, respectively. The brothers who are tasked with bringing them in, Takuya and Yuya Kuroki, will be played by Takahiro Sakurai and Kensho Ono, respectively.
There are lots of series to look forward to this coming summer, but if I’m being honest, based on that promotional video Night Head 2041 isn’t one of them. We could end up being totally surprised by this one, however, so don’t count it out quite yet, but that video isn’t doing it any favors to start.
